History

Newcastle Disability Forum was established at the end of 1988, in response to a growing feeling that disabled people should have a real influence regarding the City’s policies concerning everything from access and transport to education, training and housing. NDF became a registered charity (# 1092038) in May 2002, and gained Charitable Incorporated Organisation status (# 1156622) in April 2014.

NDF represents, and draws its membership from, disabled people, carers of disabled people and other interested parties. Many NDF members also represent other organisations. Underpinning NDF activities is a strong commitment to the Social Model of Disability, anti-racism / equal opportunities.
